It wasn’t my plan as I was out searching for the Greater White-fronted Goose in 10 degree weather last Monday evening, but I managed to capture the February supermoon when it rose from the east.
As I was slowly driving the snow-covered icy back roads of Superior Township near Ypsilanti, Michigan at dusk, I met up with a fellow birder also searching for the goose.
We stopped on Harris Road near Vreeland, peering over the cornfields as hundreds of Canada Geese circled in the sky.
While we pulled our our binoculars and spotting scope, the birder pointed out the moon rising in the sky over the farm buildings.
I quickly took some photos of the moon as the winter sunset lit up the cornfields with a golden hue.
According to EarthSky, the February supermoon was the biggest supermoon for 2019.
Did you catch a glimpse of the supermoon?
