Photo of the Week: Sunrise over Ford Lake on a Winter Morning

In the early morning hours, with the bright sun rising over Ford Lake in Ypsilanti, Michigan, we find Belted Kingfishers, Hooded Mergansers, Mallards, and, of course, the ever-present Canada Geese on the waters of the calm lake.

Temperatures are swinging back and forth between the teens and 40 degree Farenheit.

Our local lakes and marshes are going through their own changes of icy sheets at the beginning of the week followed by open waters a few days later.

The blue skies and golden sunshine almost make you forget the chill in the air as you peer through the bare tree branches at the winter birds.

Almost.
