After blooming in March last year, their “regular” time to bloom in southeast Michigan, my snowdrops (spring flower bulbs) returned to blooming early this year.
In late December, I saw tips of the snowdrops’ slender green leaves poking through the soil.
Just before our Christmas deep freeze, when temperatures and wind chills had it feeling like it was minus 18 degrees Farenheit.
After a warm spell last week, when temperatures rose to the mid-40’s and mid-50’s, I saw the snowdrops’ white blooms.
Which is what I’ve seen for over 10 years, starting in 2012 when I first wrote about snowdrops blooming early.
Snowdrops are always the first spring-blooming flower in my garden.
Until last year.
When they bloomed at the same time as the crocuses, another spring-flowering bulb.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year, whether the snowdrops will return to blooming in January.
How about you?
If you’re experiencing the winter season, are any spring-flowering bulbs blooming in your garden?
