I may not have found Sandhill Cranes when I took a road trip to mid-Michigan the weekend before Christmas.
But I was thrilled to see these two birds New Year’s Day on the Nature Center trails at Kensington Metro Park near Milford, Michigan.
If you’re from Michigan, you know it’s rare to find Sandhill Cranes this far into the winter season. They usually take off for warmer climates and open water in late fall.
Our warmer temperatures in December have birders reporting sightings all over the state.
Have to admit they surprised me on my hike!
