Photo of the Week: Red Fox at the Cemetery

It was a sunny, cool autumn day when I visited Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti this week. The recent colder weather in southeast Michigan finally turned the 100+ year old sugar maple and hickory tree leaves brilliant shades of red, gold, and orange.

A beautiful view against the clear blue sky as I travelled through the cemetery.

What I didn’t expect was one bright spot of color moving on the ground.

A red fox strolled in front of me across the gravel road, paused on the edge of the cemetery grass near the woods, and turned around to look at me.

Red fox with pointy black ears, black feet, and white fur on their fac, chest and underbelly in profile as it looks across the cemetery. Green-leaved shrubs and a long brown broken tree branch in the background.

Surprised me since red foxes are nocturnal.

A minute later, the fox disappeared into the deep shadows of the woods.
