It might be a new tradition for our Thanksgiving holiday weekend: putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
But not a typical 300-500 piece cardboard puzzle.
Rather, a wooden puzzle from Puzzle Lab, a Victoria, British Columbia, Canada based company focusing on high-quality puzzles promoting artwork from talented Canadian artists.
Founded by Tinka Robev and Andrew Azzopardi during the Covid pandemic, we learned about Puzzle Lab from an episode of Samantha Brown’s Places to Love on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service).
Puzzle pieces are not your typical cardboard puzzle pieces that have a similar die cut. Each puzzle from Puzzle Lab uses a unique cut pattern; puzzles are cut by a laser cutter.
We bought the puzzle earlier this year, but didn’t open the puzzle box until Thanksgiving Day.
All of us gathered around the table to sort through the 300 pieces, organizing them by color and straight edges.
Rare Moon by Luke Ramsey, features Tl’uk, a rare white orca that is part of an orca pod seen along the North America west coast from northern British Columbia, Canada down to Washington, United States.
It wasn’t an easy puzzle to complete, taking three days to complete as we would stop on the way to the kitchen or living room to add a few more pieces to the puzzle.
Now that it’s finished, I’m looking to frame the wooden puzzle, adding an “explosion” look to some of the puzzle pieces.
