While I was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this weekend for WordCamp Pittsburgh, I took time to visit Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens near Carnegie Mellon University.
Part of Schenley Park, the steel and glass Victorian greenhouse built in 1892 is a historic landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The outside garden beds are beautiful and popular; I wasn’t able to visit two outdoor gardens due to the weddings that were being held there this weekend.
But that didn’t matter as much to me as I thought it would since there was an amazing display of glass installations inside the greenhouses.
Super Natural Nights
Created by Seattle-based artist James Gamroth, 40 giant-sized glass orchids make up the Super Natural Nights Exhibit, open for viewing at the conservatory through 11pm at night.
The orchids have been placed throughout the greenhouses for a gorgeous display of art among the ferns, tropical plants, and flowers at Phipps Conservatory.
At night, the glass art is lit up with beautiful indoor lighting, making the displays even more impressive.
Here’s a few more of my shots of the beautiful art exhibit.
