Photo of the Week: Peonies in Bloom at Nichols Arboretum

Oh my, what a difference a week makes!

This spring I’ve had the pleasure of visiting parks and nature areas on multiple consecutive weeks, and have had a time-lapse experience for spring bird migration and spring flowers.

It’s been amazing!

Last week I took a spring hike at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor, Michigan and saw the tree peonies in bloom, the White Dogwood in full flower, and rhododendrons in bud.

This week, the Dogwood flowers lay spent on the ground, the tree peonies were done blooming, and rhododendrons were a brilliant blaze of color next to The Peony Garden.

Here’s what the rhododendron bud I shot last week looked like when I returned to Nichols Arboretum last night.

And The Peony Garden?

The herbaceous peonies were just starting to bloom, and the fragrance was heavenly!
