Last week, as my vehicle approached one of the last curves in the road on the outskirts of Aspen, Colorado on the way back from Independence Pass, I saw several large dark brown shapes near the creek that bordered the road.
Wait, what were those?
They were too large and too dark to be deer. And their antlers were huge, almost black.
I pulled my vehicle to the side of the road, quickly drew out my binoculars, and scanned the creek edge.
They were moose!
I was excited. It was the first time I’ve ever seen a moose.
Though we have moose in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I’ve never seen them when I’ve visited Marquette, Michigan or gone birding along the Lake Superior lakeshore.
When a birdwatcher sees a bird they’ve never seen before, they call it a life bird.
I wonder if there’s something similar for animals, a list of life animals?
Anyway, I took a few photos of the moose before heading on my way.
Majestic animal, isn’t it? Have you ever seen moose out in the wild?
