Photo of the Week: Moon, Venus, and Regulus Conjunction

When I woke up early on September 19, 2025, it was still dark outside. I happened to look up to the eastern sky when I saw the crescent moon with the crescent on the bottom.

Something I don’t believe I’d seen before.

And that’s when I noticed two other bright objects near the Moon. But I didn’t know what the objects were.

Quickly searching online, I learned the two objects were Venus and the star Regulus.

And I learned I was viewing a conjunction: when “two astronomical objects (such as asteroids, moons, planets, and stars) appear to be close together in the sky, as observed from Earth.

I quickly grabbed my camera to take photos and was lucky to get one photo that showed the three together.

About 20 minutes later, the sun was rising, the sky was lighter in color, and I could barely make out the Moon in the sky. Venus and Regulus had disappeared from my view.

What a special morning to wake up early!

Did you happen to see the conjunction September 19, 2025?
