Usually I walk through Miller Woods in warm weather, to discover signs of spring, look for birds, or enjoy the fall colors.
But in winter, it’s much easier to find birds when they can’t hide behind the leaves.
And since there are fewer birds in Michigan in winter, it’s much easier to identify what I’m looking at.
There’s a quiet to winter woods, a pleasant peacefulness comes over me when I walk on the snow-covered trails.
Despite the crunch my boots make in freshly fallen snow.
Fewer people visit Miller Woods in winter, I saw no one in the woods while I was there.
Which is nice when you want to enjoy nature by yourself.
