Whenever I visit a city, I always find time to visit a local arboretum, garden, or city park.
While many of my friends and colleagues know I’ve worked on software applications and designing websites for years, few know I have a degree in botany and worked as a naturalist for two years.
My love of plants and gardens will always be a part of my life.
Friends at conferences know to expect me to disappear during lunch breaks or Sunday mornings before sessions to explore plants and trees or go birdwatching in nearby parks and arboretums.
Last week was no different when I attended WordCamp US 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and visited Longwood Gardens, about an hour from downtown Philadelphia.
Though outside flowers are no longer blooming and trees are bare, Longwood Gardens was ablaze with scarlet red, brilliant yellow, deep blue, bright white, and emerald green holiday lights throughout the outside gardens.
One of the most beautiful sights was the beautiful colored fountain show at the Open Air Theater, accompanied by holiday music.
I joined dozens of people watching the five-minute light show, ooohing and aahing as the colorful fountains danced to the music.
What a treat to visit during an evening when the sky was clear and there was no rain!
Here’s another one of my favorite shots of the fountains:
Have you visited Longwood Gardens?
