With brisk west winds from the harvested cornfield behind me, it was a freezing cold December afternoon as I patiently waited on the edge of the fallow field for the Short-eared Owls to appear before dusk.
Birdwatching takes me to all kinds of places with extreme temperatures, from rain to snow, to 90 degrees Farenheit to below zero temperatures.
I was glad to have my down coat, warm hat, and fleece gloves to keep me warm as I peered over the field with my binoculars.
Watching the last full moon of the decade rise in the clear blue skies made it a better experience.
