Photo of the Week: Japanese Garden at Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

Hard to believe it’s been over a year since I last visited Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, commonly called Meijer Gardens, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In spring 2015, my family and I enjoyed a lovely Mother’s Day in the conservatory and Victorian garden. And I said I would be back in summer 2015 to see the newly-opened Japanese garden.

Well, it took me a bit longer to see the Japanese garden, but I finally made it there today.

The Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden

Wooden bridge crosses over Lena Meijer Pond

Designed by Hoichi Kurisu, a well-known designer of Japanese gardens, the Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden opened in June 2015.

The garden is open year-round and has a 3/4 mile path that winds around the Lena Meijer Pond, with short trail loops that provide benches for rest and contemplation.

Temperatures in the sixty’s and partly cloudy skies made for a wonderful day to be outside and stroll through the garden to see the plants, sculptures, bridges, and waterfalls.

Here are few more photos from the garden.
