With cloudy skies moving through our area all afternoon and evening, I didn’t think I would have any chance of seeing October’s full moon, also known as Hunter’s Moon.
Along with only four other people, I positioned myself at the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area headquarters parking lot.
Which has a clear view to the east where the moon would be rising.
I was happy there was no breeze off the lake. When I’ve gone birding in that area, the tip of the parking lot is one of the windiest places along Lake Erie.
But not the night of the full moon.
Slowly, a pinkish glow over the horizon took shape and we all watched as the moon rose over the lake’s calm waters.
Clouds obscured different parts of the moon as it rose, at times the middle portion of the moon was missing. At other times, the top and bottom of the full moon was covered by clouds.
As the moon rose, the color changed from a hazy pink to a brilliant orange.
What an experience!
