Photo of the Week: Hiking Schroeter Park

Whether I’m bicycling or driving, exploring the back roads is one of my favorite things to do in the fall. I like discovering new trails and roads I haven’t taken in the past. This past week I discovered a new park, Schroeter Park.

Tucked off Warren Road, east of Berry Road in Superior Township, Schroeter Park is an undeveloped 33-acre park, with few trails and an open prairie.

You could easily miss it as you drive along Warren, even though there’s a sign at the entrance of the park.

Oak and hickory trees line the western border of the park; I saw maples, poplars, and beeches on the eastern woods portion of the park.

The open prairie lies between the eastern and western portions of the park.

I enjoyed walking about the open prairie, even though I knew few of the plants. The fall colors from the trees bordering the prairie are stunning.

There’s one park bench in the park, and a trail on the eastern woods portion that’s marked with pink ties on the trees.

The trail leading to the open prairie is wide and seems perfect for horseback riding or cross-country skiing in the winter.

Based on my online searches, I couldn’t find any history for the park, other than it’s part of The Superior Greenway (PDF), a greenbelt consisting of 13 properties in Superior and Salem Township in Washtenaw County.

Have you visited Schroeter Park?
