Photo of the Week: Gustometer

This year’s ninth annual sculpture exhibition in Canton Township brought ten new pieces of public art on the main thoroughfare of our community.

Each piece has been created by a Midwest artist and is on exhibit for a year. This year’s exhibit (as in 2013) is part of the Midwest Sculpture Initiative (MSI), which provides outdoor sculpture exhibitions throughout the Midwest.

This piece is a close-up view of Gustometer by Beau Bilenki of London, Ontario, Canada. Bilenki studied sculpture with Tuck Langland at Indiana University. His work has been displayed in South Bend, Indiana, Saugatuck and Marshall, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, and Chicago.

Here’s the full view of Gustometer where it’s been installed in front of our local Target. The sculpture is made of concrete, rebar, and mirrors.

Bilenki is a sculptor, ceramicist, and a founding member of FireArts, a South Bend, Indiana nonprofit organization for sculptural artists which offers exhibition space, lectures, and public workshops.

In 2011, Blenki’s “Hole in One” sculpture was part of the 2011 annual sculpture exhibition in Canton.
