Even with its outstretched neck high above the floating green leaves, if I hadn’t seen the Green Heron land in the shallow water, I might have missed it.
Broken branches and whole tree limbs were strewn across the lake from the thunderstorms that swept through our area.
It was a challenge for me to find birds in the water among the vegetation and tree branches.
Though the mosquitoes had no problem finding me, despite the bug spray I used to keep them away.
I don’t often get a chance to view a Green Heron with its neck outstretched; it usually has a small compact greenish/blue body with a tucked-in neck when it hunts from shore.
What a treat to see the brown streaking on the neck of this beautiful bird!
