Photo of the Week: Goudy Park Mural

Visiting the nearby city of Wayne, Michigan this weekend, I was impressed to find a beautiful mural in their downtown, just behind Wayne City Hall.

Welcome to Goudy Park is a recently installed mural dedicated in October 2025.

The vibrant, brightly colored mural has two parts: one side celebrates music and artists, the other side celebrates parks and recreation.

I discovered the mural is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Partners in Public Art Program (PIPA), a joint collaboration between the DIA and metro Detroit communities to create community-driven public art.

Since 2018, the program has been responsible for murals and sculptures throughout communities in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties.

Each year the DIA invites cities, township, and villages in the three counties to apply for a PIPA public art project in their community. The program is funded through a tri-county millage.

I was excited to learn the Goudy Park mural was created by TreeTown Murals, the same local company that created the Welcome to Trenton mural I shared in August 2022.
