Photo of the Week: First Snowfall of the Season

It was expected.

I woke up in the early morning to see big white flakes falling from the sky. Grass and rooftops were covered with a light dusting of snow.

We’ve had an extended period of warmer-than-usual temperatures in southeast Michigan this fall. It was nice to enjoy late flowering marigolds, cosmos, calendulas, and orange coneflowers in the garden.

Temperatures finally dropped this past week and we received our first measurable snowfall.

Less than an inch of snow fell in our area.

From what I learned from local weather forecasters in our area, the average first snow date is November 16. So we were only two days late with our first snow on November 18.

By 11AM, all the snow had melted.

Fespite cooler temperatures in the mid-40’s Fahrenheit, with night time temperatures below freezing, the parsley plant covered in snow in this photo is still thriving outside in the front courtyard.
