Photo of the Week: First Ornament on Our 2025 Christmas Tree

Handmade by a close friend over 30 years ago, the small mouse ornament is one of my favorite Christmas ornaments.

It always brings back memories of that long-ago friendship. As often happens, we’ve lost touch over the years.

Less than two inches in height and size (except for the long tail), check out the:

  • handsewn edges of the gray felt mouse body
  • small black bead eye
  • scrap of red and white print cloth acting as a blanket for the mouse sitting in a walnut shell half.

My friend told me she used a cotton ball under the cloth to provide cushioning for the mouse to sit upright. The ornament hanger is a red rick rack trim ribbon.

Look in the dark background in the bottom left of the photo and you’ll find another one of my favorite ornaments: little lamb!

For folks who celebrate Christmas, what are your favorite ornaments?
