Photo of the Week: Family of Great Horned Owls

It’s not often you get a chance to see a pair of Great Horned Owls raising their young.

I’m feeling very fortunate to have viewed the family through my binoculars, camera, and spotting scope as the young fledglings grew over the past month.

When I watched the birds yesterday, I was impressed with how large the young owls had grown.

Here are a couple of photos of the adult Great Horned Owls, almost completely camouflaged in the branches and against the tree trunk.

Hidden by tree branches, the male owl keeps watch over the young in the nest below.
