Shorter days, longer nights, and cooler fall weather in Michigan bring with them something I long for all year: fall color change in Michigan.
One of my favorite things to do in fall, besides birding, is to travel along Michigan’s backroads to gaze at the beautiful colors.
Whether I’m walking, bicycling, or driving, there’s nothing that brightens up my week than to view the brilliant orange, yellow, gold, and red colors of the sugar maples, oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and sumacs that line the rural roads.
Fall color is starting in southeast Michigan, we’re not near peak yet.
This tunnel of color is a dirt backroad in Superior Township, a quiet road where walkers and runners are seen more often than vehicles.
