Photo of the Week: Double Gold Spirea in Winter

In the fall, I don’t cut back the dead flowers of the Black-eyed Susans, Double Gold Spirea, and other plants in my front courtyard.

I love how the stalks pop through the snow from November through February, adding interest to the otherwise white landscape.

With the weather warming up to the mid-sixties degrees Farenheit this week, the two to three inches of snow we still have on the ground will fast disappear.

And I’ll start cleaning up the courtyard and cutting back the dead flower heads.

But until then, I’m going to enjoy the beauty of the spent flowers and seed pods of my plants.
