If you didn’t know this photo was taken in the past week, in the cold of a southeast Michigan winter with temperatures barely in the double digits Fahrenheit, you might think today’s photo of the week was taken on a warm day.
But it you look carefully in the rocks along the shoreline, you’ll notice white patches of snow and ice.
While it was a cold morning, at least it was calm. Something I didn’t expect when I prepared to visit Sterling State Park in Monroe, Michigan in early December.
From September through November this year I’ve spent a fair amount of time along the Lake Erie shoreline, mostly at Lake Erie Metropark, as I looked for and watched hawks in fall migration.
November at Lake Erie Metropark had more than it’s normal share of windy days, and I bundled up accordingly.
As did the official counter and volunteer observers at the Detroit River Hawk Watch.
It was a special treat this past week to not be greeted by strong winds at Sterling State Park.
Added bonus for my walk: the beautiful reflection of the white fluffy clouds in the the lake.
