I was thrilled to learn the University of Michigan University Symphony Orchestra was performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 this week at Hill Auditorium, the orchestra’s first public performance for the 2021-22 year.
Symphony No. 7 is one of my favorite pieces, I can never decide which movement I like best.
I studied the symphony in college and still remember how much I enjoyed it the first time I heard it.
Like many people, I haven’t attended in-person performances since the beginning of the COVID pandemic.
Which is why I was even more thrilled to learn the University Symphony Orchestra would have a livestream performance of their concert.
I invited my friend Patricia Anderson to join me watching the livestream; we’ve attended live webcasts of Detroit Symphony Orchestra performances in the past.
For anyone wondering how the orchestra performed during COVID, the School of Music, Theater & Dance have specific COVID guidelines for rehearsals and performances.
What I saw during the performance: the conductor was masked as were all musicians (except those on woodwinds and brass).
If you’re interested in watch the performance, check the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance YouTube channel. From what I can tell, they’re publishing videos within a week of a performance.
As of today, the September 17, 2021 performance hasn’t been published yet.
What a treat to once again enjoy a live orchestra performance!
