When I visited Cincinnati, Ohio over the Christmas holiday, I took a couple hikes at Ault Park.
The fourth largest park in Cincinnati, Ault Park has a range of gardens, trails, and playgrounds, as well as the Wasson Way Connector Trail which I enjoyed walking during the warmer (50 degrees Farenheit) temperatures.
Ault Park was first created in 1911, named in memory of Ida May Ault and Levi Addison Ault who donated the land. Levi was a former Cincinnati Park Commissioner.
The beautiful Italian renaissance-style pavillion was dedicated in 1930 and is the focal point of the park, along with the gardens surrounding the pavillion.
What I didn’t learn until after I took my hikes are the many events, weddings, parties, and activities held at Ault Park during the warmer months of the year.
The pavillion at Ault Park has a beautiful illuminated cascading fountain on either side of the steps leading up the pavillion (only turned on during the warmer months).
A fireworks display and celebration is held at the park on July 4th.
In 1980, the park launched an adopt-a-plot program for the Ault Park gardens where local residents are encouraged to participate.
Four decades later, the program is still going strong and has been become popular with other parks across the country.
Good reasons for me to return to Ault Park in the warmer months and see the beautiful gardens and fountain!
