Photo of the Week: Artemis II Launch

What an exciting week for space fans around the world as they watched Artemis II launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 1, 2026.

I was one of the millions of people watching the countdown before launch.

What a thrill!

Bringing back memories of sitting on the floor in front of the TV watching Apollo launches when I was growing up.

Still boggles my mind: it’s the first crewed Moon mission in 50 years.

The four-person crew of the lunar flyby mission includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, as well as Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

Wonderful to learn mission specialist Koch, the first woman to travel in low-earth orbit, has a Michigan connection. Koch was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The mission lasts ten days. You can follow Artemis II progress on the NASA website.

Note this is not my photo, it’s a NASA public domain photo.
