Photo of the Week: April Snow Showers

Winter wasn’t done with southeast Michigan as a cold front blew through last week, bringing with it almost an inch of snow.

Snow accumulated on rooftops, grass, and evergreens.

But not on streets or sidewalks, where it quickly melted.

Anticipating the snow showers, I kept my potted plants in the garage.

(I overwintered about a dozen plants in the garage. They’ve been spending the last couple weeks outside during the day to get some sunshine).

My daffodils in the front yard drooped over from the weight of ice crystals and snow.

I wasn’t concerned. Spring-flowering bulbs like daffodils and snowdrops are pretty resilient for handling cold weather and snow.

By the end of the day, all the snow had melted.

And my cheery daffodils were once again standing upright. If you hadn’t seen the snow in the morning, you would never have known we had April snow showers.
