Excited to see my Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) is blooming this week!
I planted them in February 2025, as part of the Wild Ones Wayne County winter sowing project. Seeds were planted in milk jugs and placed outdoors for cold stratfication.
The anise hyssop seedlings were the first plants to germinate in my six milk jugs. I planted the seedlings in my new garden beds in May.
And gave away probably three dozen anise hyssop plants at the various spring plant swaps I attended in Ypsilanti, Canton, and Westland, Michigan.
Since most native plants spend their first year establishing roots, I didn’t know if my anise hyssop would bloom this year.
But at last month’s Wild Ones Wayne County member yard-to-yard tour, another member told me their anise hyssop bloomed the first year.
When I saw the flower buds forming early last week, I was thrilled. And to have the blue-violet spiky flowers bloom within a week of seeing the buds was wonderful!
