Shoppers quickly walk by the art installation, barely giving it a glance, as they head toward the doors of the nearby arts and crafts supply store.
Not me.
I stopped for several minutes to admire the sculpture and look about for the placard describing the work and artist.
The welded art installation, All Under Heaven, was created by Gregory Mendez of Decatur, Indiana.
The sculpture depicts an Android couple dancing. One dancer holds the other, as the second dancer gracefully reaches their arm upward to the sky, their long green hair flowing downward.
Part of our community’s 16th Annual Sculpture Exhibit on Ford Road in Canton, Michigan, the sculpture is from the Midwest Sculpture Initiative which provides outdoor sculpture exhibits throughout America’s Midwest.
If you’re thinking the style looks familiar to you, you might be remembering Mendez’s Hands Held High sculpture along the shore of Belleville Lake.
Mendez also created one of my favorites from a few years ago, Sunny Tree Top. I loved the bluebirds!
