It’s back!
The Plymouth Ice Festival returned to Plymouth, Michigan for their 41st festival this weekend.
I’ve been going to, and introducing my friends, neighbors, and work colleagues, to the festival ever since it first launched.
And for the first time in a while, yesterday’s Arctic cold weather was perfect for the dozens of ice sculpture in front of downtown Plymouth businesses and in Kellogg Park.
Sadly, in the past few years, the festival has fallen on a warm winter weekend.
Which meant the artists’ sculptures didn’t last long in the warmer temperatures.
Yesterday’s cold temperatures (it felt like 2 degrees Farenheit when I was there in the morning) meant a quick walk for me through downtown.
But I loved seeing all the sculptures in the bright sunshine!
One of my favorite sculptures was in front of Kilwin’s on the corner of Main Street and Penniman, check out the beautiful texture of the moose!

I’m not sure, but I imagine that texture is created by careful chiseling of the ice.
