What I Found Interesting: May 21, 2025

A collection of jazz performances, a lost Chinese typewriter found in a basement, and a fantastic interactive tour of NASA space images of our planet, solar system, galaxy, and universe are among the interesting stories I’ve read and enjoyed over the past month.

Photo of the Week: Eliza Howell Park Stickwork

A hutlike structure with mutliple levels, the hand-woven branches form an incredible welcoming sculpture at the park entrance, inviting people to walk inside.

Within a few hundred feet after you enter Eliza Howell Park in northwest Detroit, you immediately see an amazing natural sculpture rising from the ground.

I was impressed when I saw it and wondered who created it, and how it was made.

From what I learned from Sidewalk Detroit, the organization that hosted the artist, the “Stickwork” sculpture was created by artist Patrick Dougherty.
