Like many people who moved to the fediverse over the past few years, I’ve struggled to explain to folks on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media what the fediverse is.
And all the benefits it offers.
For me, no ads, no algorithm, no corporate ownership, and no surveillance were the top reasons I left the social media platform formerly called Twitter and moved to Mastodon.
I’ve been happily using Mastodon, one of many open-source fediverse social networks, since late 2022.
Thanks to Elena Rossini, an Italian filmmaker, photographer, and activist, I’m happily sharing her recently published video Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media (released on Peertube and Vimeo) explaining what the fediverse is.
Kudos to Rossini and everyone who worked with her to produce the video! And to all the translators for volunteering captions in multiple languages.
(I tried to embed her video on this post, but the connection kept timing out.)
