My Word for 2023

It’s the beginning of a new year, when people often make New Year’s resolutions.

Losing weight, practicing mindfulness, or daily exercising are common resolutions.

But in 2022, I chose not to make a specific resolution.

Instead I followed the lead of Chris Brogan who recommended My Three Words.

Words to guide my choices and actions on a daily basis.

At the start of 2022, I had already begun making with my plans to retire from web design and development, which I announced publicly in my December 2022 Changes post.

My three words for 2022 were quick for me to identify:

  • Simplify
  • Move
  • Balance

I wrote my words on a sticky note and placed it on my computer screen.

Every day I saw those three words, which helped me make quicker decisions and guided me throughout the year.

What’s My Word for 2023?

In 2023, I’m continuing my focus on words rather than resolutions or goals.

But I’m choosing one word: evolve.

An appropriate word given my retirement after 25 years of working in web design and development, user experience, and accessibility advocacy.

My personal life, website, and vision of who I am will evolve over the next year.

I’m not sure what all the changes will bring, but I’m looking forward to it!

Are you choosing a word of the year to guide you?
