Memorial Day 2018: Remembering Those Who Died While Serving Our Country

Today on Memorial Day, we remember and honor all men and women who died in military service for the United States of America.

We are grateful for their service and sacrifice.

Dating back to the 1860’s, Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, honored soldiers who had died in the Civil War.

After World War I, it was expanded to honor all soldiers who died in any war. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national federal holiday in the United States.

One of my favorite Memorial Day quotes is from President Harry S. Truman, engraved on the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.

Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.
