Are you considering converting more of your lawn into a natural habitat? Curious about native plants, but not sure where to start? Or wondering how to connect with other people interested in removing invasive species and improving their outdoor space?
Join the Less Lawn, More Life 12-week challenge, a free online program to transform your lawn into an improved outdoor space and better habitat for birds, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
Hosted by Plan it Wild in collaboration with 11 organizations (including Wild Ones, where I’m a member), Less Lawn, More Life launches May 1, 2025.
About Less Lawn, More Life
The program is free; to participate you’ll need to sign up with your email address.
Over 12 weeks, you’ll be guided on how to transform your lawn into habitat for birds, butterflies, and other beneficial insects:
- Weekly micro-challenges by email
- Expert guidance from leading experts in ecological landscaping, native plants, and wildlife habitat creation
- Simple steps to create low-maintenance habitat
- Weekly videos (I hope they’re captioned!)
- Choose whether to spend as little as an hour a week, or more
- Connect with fellow participants to ask questions, share tips, and celebrate successes
- Track your progress with Wildr (which I’m assuming is some type of digital application, but there’s no detailed info about it on their website)
Once you sign up, you’ll receive a confirmation notification along with details for the kickoff event on May 1, 2025 at noon Eastern Daylight Time with special guest Doug Tallamy.
Tallamy, ecologist, author, and founder of Homegrown National Park will give a live presentation followed by Q&A.
Summary
When I started converting my southeast Michigan lawn to native plants a few years ago, I didn’t know where to start. I spent a lot of time searching online for resources.
Met fellow gardeners at local plant swaps, asked questions, had several successes and some failures with native plants.
I wish I had found something like the Less Lawn, More Life program when I started!
