Joining Global Climate Strike 2019

You’ll notice something different on my site today, a banner that announces my commitment and participation in Global Climate Strike this week.

A worldwide initiative, Global Climate Strike encourages employees to walk out of their workplace on September 20, 2019 in an act of solidarity to show global leaders we demand an end to our reliance on fossil fuels.

Organized by 350.org in partnership with Fridays for Future, you can also participate online through a digital climate strike on your website or blog.

Digital Climate Strike

Not everyone has the ability to leave their job.

Digital Climate Strike invites you to participate in Global Climate Strike by promoting in-person strikes in your community as well as spreading awareness.

WordPress website owners participating in Digital Climate Strike can display a banner on your site and add a dismissable overlay to your site on September 20, 2019.

For WordPress.com site owners, you can activate the Digital Climate Strike banner and overlay by going to My Site > Manage > Settings and change the toggle switch from off to on.

Digital Climate Strike 2019 panel toggle switch in main settings page.

If you have a self-hosted WordPress sites, you can install the Digital Climate Strike plugin (which I’m using on this site).

Once installed, select the Settings option for the plugin.

Enable the Climate Strike Widget to display the footer banner on your site. Choose which language you want the banner to display in.

Note: the widget will display once per user per device per day. However, you can change the display to a different interval.

Be sure to save your settings.

On September 20th at midnight, the footer banner will expand to a full screen overlay saying that you’re joining the Global Climate Strike that day, and directing your website visitors to join the Global Climate Strike movement.
