Jetpack 2.9 Released: Related Posts and Multisite Support

Automattic released their latest version of Jetpack yesterday, with two new features: a Related Posts module and Multisite support.

In addition, the 2.9 version has improved Single Sign On, and a number of other improvements and bug fixes.

The Related Content module allows you to display links to additional content on your post, similar to the popular Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP).

But the Jetpack module frees up your server resources by using the power of WordPress.com rather than your own server to analyze web content.

I’ll be checking out the Related Content module over the next week. My initial tests showed that once you activate the module, it takes a couple minutes to index the content.

You have two display modes for the related content, text mode or a visual mode (which includes thumbnails).

You’ll probably want to modify the CSS styles to match your site styling.

With the new Multisite login feature, you can connect and configure all the sites on your multisite network from the master account. What a time savings!

Look for the new Jetpack > Settings option added to your network admin. You’ll now be able to:

  • Manage all your sites’ connections
  • Control which individual blog administrators can reconnect with their own account
  • Configure which Jetpack modules are activated by default

The Single Sign On module offers improved security, allowing site administrators to require user’s enable Two-Step Authentication on their WordPress.com account before logging in.

Your site doesn’t touch the user’s credentials; WordPress.com handles all authentication.

What’s convenient about Single Sign On is the user can sign in with the same username and password they use every day on WordPress.com.

Are you using Jetpack 2.9?

Will you enable the new Related Content and Single Sign On modules?

And if you’re managing a multisite installation, what do you think of the new login? Share your thoughts in the comments.
