For those readers who celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day with your family and friends.
We saw the family of Sandhill Cranes yesterday at Lake Erie Metropark along the western shore of Lake Erie.
First time we’ve seen a crane family in spring with young chicks (viewed from the road, photo taken at a distance away with a telephoto lens).
From what I learned from the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, young Sandhill Cranes are called colts in their second month of life, when they learn to dance and begin pre-flight training.
It was a treat to see the family of cranes! In the past, we’ve only seen young Sandhill Cranes in mid- to late-summer when they’re much taller.
