In the United States and Canada, the first Monday in September is the Labor Day federal holiday; a day to honor the labor movement and pay tribute to working men and women.
When I was growing up in metro Detroit, Labor Day was a day of parades in local communities, with union members marching as well as local politicians.
For me, Labor Day also marked the end of summer with family barbecues and the beginning of the school year.
Today, while many metro Detroit communities no longer hold Labor Day parades, the Detroit Labor Day Parade is one of the largest parades in the country.
How are you spending your Labor Day?
