Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July!

For everyone in the U.S. celebrating our Independence Day, I hope you enjoy the holiday with your friends and family.

As many of us get ready for a day of picnics, parades, and time with family, the day brings back memories of past Fourth of July celebrations.

For me, one of my favorite memories was the Fourth of July parade I saw in Curtis, Michigan in 2005. The parade was billed as the Biggest Little Town Parade.

Everyone in town and the surrounding areas turned out to see the parade. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the main street was lined with families watching the clowns, decorated cars, floats, and marching bands in the parade.

I’ve seen a lot of parades over the years, but the parade in Curtis has always stood out for me. Here’s why:

  1. The family of four in the photo above not only dressed up in red, white, and blue, but decorated every inch of their bikes in red, white, and blue
  2. More than a dozen bagpipe groups from across Canada performed in the parade
  3. Log trucks hauling logs from the nearby northern forests were part of the parade. First time I’ve seen log trucks in a parade
