Happy Anniversary, Campbell’s Soup Cans!

Are you a fan of Campbell’s soup?

Today marks the the 63rd anniversary of the premiere of Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans art on July 9, 1962.

Warhol’s series of 32 paintings (his first solo gallery exhibit) were placed in a single line at the Los Angeles Ferus Gallery for the premiere.

Similar to how products on a shelf would be seen at stores. (At the time of the premiere, Campbell’s only had 32 kinds of soup.)

Growing up, Campbell’s soup was a staple in my house.

When I came home from school, lunch was often Campbell’s Tomato Soup or Vegetarian Vegetable soup.

With a grilled cheese sandwich. Or a tuna salad on toast.

If mom wanted to make it extra special, she would cut the sandwiches diagonally, into triangles.
