Happy 20th Anniversary, WordPress!

You’re invited! Join the WordPress community on May 27, 2023 as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of WordPress.

Did you know the first WordPress version was released on May 27, 2003 when Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little forked B2, a popular blogging software?

In 2023, it continues to be the most popular content management system; WordPress is used by over 43% of websites using content management systems.

Anniversary Events

The official WordPress 20th anniversary site lists a slew of events around the world, including in-person and virtual events.

Two virtual events stood out for me, from the Learn WordPress Online Workshops meetup group that everyone can attend:

Other Ways to Celebrate

With Memorial Day weekend in the United States coinciding with the 20th anniversary celebration, it might be challenging to join events.

Here are a few other ways to celebrate the anniversary:

  • Order official WordPress 20th anniversary merchandise. You’ll find sweatshirts, caps, notebooks, and more.
  • Take a photo of your favorite WordPress swag and share it on social media with the hashtag #WP20 (Don’t forget to add image alternative text to your photo!)
  • Blog or post about your favorite WordPress memory, whether it was your first meetup, WordCamp, or how you helped another community member

Wrapping Up

I’ve been a WordPress user since 2006. I’ve met so many people; I’m truly grateful for the community.

I’ve met clients as well as longtime friends through the community, at meetups, online, and at WordCamps. We’ve stayed in touch for years and chat about our lives and families.

Whether you use WordPress to share your photos, blog, design, develop, or manage your company’s website, I hope you find time this week to celebrate the 20th anniversary!
