What a gorgeous morning for Easter Sunday!
Bright sunshine, blue skies, and spring-like temperatures. We had a delightful worship experience this morning at our church.
Senior Minister Rev. Dr. Jim Skimmins preached on the Acts of the Apostles. As expected, the church sanctuary was packed with people, but no chairs were lined up the center aisle this year.
With the simultaneous Upper Room service held upstairs, it was nice that people didn’t have to sit in the center aisle.
Dr. Skimmins provided just enough light-heartedness during the sermon to keep everyone listening (“I know you aren’t the type of congregation to walk out on one of my sermons. Yet.”).
He ended the sermon explaining that Easter is about creation–the new creation. He spoke on how God is creating new opportunities beyond our control.
At the end of the service, benediction was given and a special announcement encouraging people to remain.
On Easter Sunday, it’s tradition in our church to sing the “Hallelujah” chorus from Handel’s Messiah at the end of the service.
People in the congregation are invited to step forward to the front of the sanctuary; extra music is provided for all singers who join in.
Everyone in the congregation stands while, accompanied by trumpets, and organ, the Chancel Choir and congregation members sing the resounding chorus.
What a beautiful way to end Easter service!
