This week, January 24 to January 28, 2022, kicks off Data Privacy Week, an expansion of Data Privacy Day by the United States National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA).
The goal of Data Privacy Week is to spread awareness about online privacy, by empowering individuals and businesses around the world to respect privacy, build trust, and safeguard data.
This year’s theme for Data Privacy Week is “Keep It Private.”
For the past several years, I’ve participated in Data Privacy Day. Which is how I learned about the list of privacy policy links to update settings in the devices and online services I use.
I’m thrilled to learn the day has been expanded to a week of activities and learning.
In the past, with so many activities focused on one day, I found myself debating which event happening at the same time I could attend, whether they were in-person events (before the pandemic) or online events last year.

Wrapping Up
During Data Privacy Week, take time as an individual to own your online privacy. Find out what you can do to stay safe online.
As an organization, learn more about the valuable data you collect and store. Create a culture of privacy by teaching your organization’s staff and volunteers what privacy means. And the role they play in making sure privacy is maintained and protected.
