Do You Use WordPress? Complete the 2021 WordPress Survey

It’s that time of year again. Yes, the annual WordPress survey is now available.

Everyone who uses or works with WordPress is invited to take the survey, whether you’re a user, site builder, designer, developer, or contributor.

Here’s your opportunity to complete the survey, share your experience with WordPress, and how you use it.

The survey will be open through the end of  2021 and is available in six languages:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Russian
  • Spanish

It doesn’t take long, the survey estimates it takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

I finished it in eight minutes.

As in the past, all data is anonymized. No email addresses or IP addresses are associated with published results.

How Survey Results Will Be Reported

For several years, the annual WordPress survey results were shared at Matt Mullenweg’s State of the Word (SOTW) address at WordCamp US.

I watched the results shared in person from the fourth row at Matt’s State of the Word at WordPress US 2015.

However, last year the survey results were published on the WordPress.org blog (PDF: 11.4MB).

The 2021 survey results are expected to be published on the WordPress.org News blog in 2022.

WordPress 2020 Survey Results

Here are a few of my takeaways from the 2020 survey results:

  • After a decrease in number of surveys completed in 2019 (6,203), a total of 17,295 surveys were completed in 2020. (Still not reaching the best year for survey completions, 2015, when 45,995 surveys were completed)
  • 75% of surveys were completed in English, while 8% were completed in French, 6% in Spanish, and 4% in Russian
  • A larger percentage of WordPress Users (as defined by the survey group definitions) completed the survey this year compared to prior years
  • Survey responses have shifted geographically. In 2019, Europe had the highest response with 62%, but in 2020 only had 40%. Increases in survey responses were seen in Asia (24% in 2020 vs. 12% in 2019) and North America close behind (23% in 2020 vs. 10% in 2019)
  • For future projects, WordPress continues to be the platform of choice (91% in 2020 vs. 82% in 2019)
  • 52% of survey participants choose WordPress because it’s what they know best (compared to 59% in 2019)
  • Almost three-quarters of survey participants (73%) use WordPress as a content management system
  • The block editor is used more by WordPress Professionals group (40%) vs the WordPress User group (30%).
  • Web development (77%) and website management (57%) are the two most common specialized services offered by WordPress Professionals

I wasn’t surprised to learn more WordPress Professionals surveyed were using the block editor.

However, I think everyone in the WordPress community would be concerned that only 30% of WordPress Users surveyed are using the block editor.

Take the Survey!

If you haven’t already submitted your responses, take the 2021 annual survey!

Help the WordPress community and people who build WordPress better understand how it’s used and who uses it.
