Celebrated in March in the United States, Women’s History Month is a month-long celebration focusing on the role of women in American history.
Special events are held around the country to highlight and honor the accomplishments of women throughout our history.
After a quick online search for Women’s History Month events in southeast Michigan, I found several local events that caught my attention, including:
She Built This City: Women Who Shaped Detroit
Hosted by the Detroit Historical Society, the mid-day event explores Detroit’s history through the powerful stories of women.
The event features Wayne State University master student Doris Lanzkron-Tamazaro speaking on women’s roles before and during Prohibition.
Biographical projects on influential women by Detroit Public School students, a focus on 12 women in Detroit history, and a Women’s History scavenger hunt round out the event.

Ann Arbor Art + Feminism 2026
Hosted by the Ann Arbor District Library, University of Michigan Library, and University of Michigan Literature, Sciences, and Arts Technology Services. the event is both a panel discussion and interactive workshop with a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.
The free event kicks off with a panel discussion by University of Michigan faculty members on creating a feminist, inclusive, and more equitable internet.

The Henry Ford Museum
Find daily special programs throughout Women’s History Month at The Henry Ford, included with admission to the museum.
Experiment with History | You Can Be Her, If You Can See Her is held from 10AM to noon in the Car Court, highlighting the amazing women of motorsports.
A free 30-minute tour, Herstory: Celebrating Women’s History begins daily at 1PM in Museum Plaza where you’ll learn the stories of women who shaped history around the world.
What Emma Wrote: The Woman Behind the Words on the Statue of Liberty is a story stroll starting near Made In America: Manufacturing and With Liberty and Justice for All.
Author Ann Diament Koffsky and illustrator N. Tarcan take you on a journey highlighting the biography of Emma Lazarus, who wrote the poem inscribed on the pedastal of the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
