If you haven’t heard, today has been proclaimed #MollyDay, a day to celebrate and share our stories about Molly Holzschlag.
Whether you’re a web developer, designer, user experience professional, content strategist, heck, if you’re any type of web professional, what you do on the web has been influenced by the teachings and advocacy of Molly Holzschlag.
Author of more than 25 books, teacher, and open web evangelist, Holzschlag has been writing, teaching, and talking about web design, open web technologies, and accessibility since the 1990s.
When I first began working on the web in the mid-1990s, I read as many web design articles by Molly as I could. I remember reading her books on XHTML, diligently following her code examples, and discovering how to use them in my web projects.
I never imagined I would have the opportunity to meet Molly in person, introduce her to Detroit and our web design community as she spoke not once but twice in one day.
I have wonderful memories of our dinner the next evening in Ann Arbor with accessibility colleagues and friends Dylan Barrell, Keith Instone, Larry Rusinsky, and Scott Williams as we shared our experiences and personal stories.
Thank you, Mols for being there, and for being such an amazing person. And for opening my eyes to the wonders of web design and the open web.
