Celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13

Holding a door open for another person, sharing kinds words with someone you care about, or paying for the meal for the person behind you at the drive-through are unexpected acts of kindness that can make someone’s day.

And sometimes we forget about that as we focus on our own life struggles.

With all that’s happening in the world—wars, famine, hurricanes, flash floods, fires, politics—it can be challenging to not react with negativity.

Introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, World Kindness Day on November 13 offers an opportunity for all of us to demonstrate kindness, empathy and compassion for others.

Without expecting anything in return.

It’s an opportunity to step outside of our daily routine, think about other people, and consider positive ways we can make a mark on the world around us.

And how our acts of selfless kindness can inspire others, creating a long chain of infectious kindness toward people.

My local library, Canton Public Library, has celebrated World Kindness Day for several years with different activities and events.

This year the library is holding a Cocoa & Compliment event, inviting people to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa at the library and pick up a compliment from a bowl (written by library staff).
